Guided Walks in South Wales
All over South Wales and the Brecon Beacons National Park, there are many interesting Walks, whether Geologically notable, a glimpse into South Wales’ Archaeological past, Neolithic, or sites of special interest from a Natural History viewpoint.
Let us select and deliver walks to suit you, then enjoy the walking, scenery and the information from our knowledgeable Guides.
Natural World
Join your knowledgeable guide on a journey you’ll never forget, let us lead you across the land and show you the things that most people don’t see. These guided walks often cover geology and geography, fauna and flora, folk lore and legend, natural history and more.
Natural Wonders – This ever popular favourite winds through a steep gorge, taking in cave entrances and cascading waterfalls on a route that will impress and surprise.
Dark Skies – Heading out after the sun goes down to make the most of the Brecon Beacons Dark Sky Reserve, one of the best places to see the celestial bodies that surround our small planet. On a good night whole of the Milky Way can be seen streaking across the night sky.
History & Heritage
Talk a stroll back in time and see hundreds, even thousands of years of human history scattered across the Welsh landscape. Join your guide and follow in the footsteps of Neolithic Man hunting and living in caves, or an invading army ready to lay siege to one of the hundreds of castles in the area, or a miner working to fuel the industrial revolution.
Carreg Cennen, Carmarthenshire – Approach one of the most dramatically positioned castles in the whole of Wales from the edge of the mountains, through ancient fields and woodland where battles were fought long ago. This circular walk takes in hidden rivers, tales of daring and there is even a cave under the castle to explore.
Forgotten Industry, Brecon Beacons – Following the path of the beautiful river Mellte, we’ll take you on a journey back to when Wales provided the power for the British Empire and the industrial revolution. Coal, gunpowder, furnaces and copper, it was all happening in the Valleys not so long ago.
Crashed Bomber, Swansea – Hidden in the craggy ground above the Swansea Valley is the remains of a Wellington bomber from WWII. It’s Canadian crew perished in bad weather as they flew into the mountains, but they are remembered by a memorial amongst the strewn wreckage. This is a great walk in mountain terrain.
Myth and Legend
Retrace the steps of ancient folklore and discover where history becomes legend.
Lady of the Lake – Llyn y Fan Fawr is a beautiful glacial lake in a stunning setting in the Carmarthen Fans, in the quiet West of the Brecon Beacons. Legend tells of a lady of the lake who changed the course of local life for ever. This is a longer walk so a good level of fitness is recommended.
Peak Adventure
Take in the high points of South Wales on one of the 800m+ high summits, the highest in Southern Britain. They can be hard work to ascend, but the rewards at the top are worth it – views are not guaranteed, but the feeling of achievement and satisfaction are.
Combine the enjoyment of a day in the hills or countryside with a little extra knowledge from your guide and you won’t believe how much more is out there. You’ll never know, unless you go with someone in the know.
